Now that we have truly settled into the season of winter and, as I would imagine, cabin fever is starting to set in, I think that it’s the perfect time to tell you about the exciting new line up of teen programs we have going on here at NCPL! We’ve got all of the indoor fun you need to break up your winter routine, from movies and video games, to cooking and community service.

First on our list is the very first meeting of our new Teen Graphic Novel Club on Thursday, January 22 at 3:30 p.m. This one is for all of you comic book nerds and manga junkies! Join us as we gather together to discuss our favorite graphic novels, do fun activities, discuss what graphic novels should be added to the library’s collection, and just enjoy the company of some fellow graphic novel fans. For our first meeting, make sure to bring your favorite graphic novel, or whatever graphic novel you happen to be reading at the moment, to discuss with the group. The second meeting of the group will take place on Thursday, March 26 at 3:30 p.m.

We also have some great cooking programs coming up! Join us as we try to beat the chill with our Soup for the Cold Soul program on Friday, February 6 at 3 p.m. My colleague, Edyta Metz, will be showing you how to make vegetable soup from scratch. Then, join us again on Friday, March 6 at 3 p.m. for our crepes making program! These programs do require registration, so make sure to sign up here and here.

If it’s a good movie your looking for, make sure to not miss out on our ongoing TeenFlix after school movie program! Join us on the 2nd Thursday of every month as we come together to watch a movie and enjoy some snacks. Our next movie will be If I Stay based on the young adult novel of the same title written by Gayle Forman. We will be starting the movie at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 12.

In need of some community service hours? Then join us on Wednesday, February 25 at 3:30 p.m. for our Soap Making for a Homeless Shelter program. We are going to make homemade soap and finalize the collection of toothbrushes and toothpaste for a local homeless shelter. If you our interested in coming make sure to register here.

For all of you aspiring novelists, poets, and writers of all types, we are starting a Teen Writing Club! Join us as we gather together to talk about writing, share our completed works and works-in-progress, and do fun writing activities. Notebooks and writing utensils will be provided for all of those who need them. Our first meeting will be on Thursday, February 26 at 3:30 p.m.

Last, but not least, is our Teen Adventure Time Party! We are calling on all Adventure Time fans to join us for Adventure Time viewing, crafts, games, and more! This program will take place on Tuesday, March 17 at 3:30 p.m. and does require registration, so make sure to sign up here.

If you have any questions about the programs listed above, you can contact me at lhanby@northcantonlibrary.org. Also, make sure to pay attention to which programs require registration. Registration usually begins the first day of the month in which the program will take place (i.e. registration for a program on February 25 will start February 1).

With that, I wish you all the best of luck in braving the winter weather and I look forward to seeing a lot of you at these various winter programs!
