They say one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.
And if you’ve ever scored a mint condition Coach handbag at a thrift store for $10, you know the dopamine rush that comes when you realize you’re saving hundreds of dollars on a high-price item just because you took the time to browse.
If treasure hunting at antique shops, flea markets, yard sales, and thrift stores is your thing, we’ve got great news for you: we’re making Kovels, the #1 resource for identifying, pricing, buying, and selling antiques and collectibles, available to you on the go!
How does it all work? We’re glad you asked!
Let’s say you’re browsing around a garage sale and spot an item that looks intriguing (like this $10 ashtray that sold for $3,000 on eBay). If you have a smart phone or a tablet nearby, all you need to do is bring up the Kovels database and search to see if the item is listed there and, if so, how much it’s worth.
Here’s how you do it:
Step 1: Gently set the intriguing item down and make sure no other garage salers snatch it up while you research.
Step 2: Open the Ohio Digital Library’s Libby app and head to the main page. It will look like this:
Step 3: Scroll down until you see the Extras section, towards the middle of the page. It looks like this:
Step 4: Click on the word Extras.
Step 5: It will open a page that looks like this:
Step 6: Tap on the Kovels image to open the database.
Step 7: Begin your search!
Please note that Kovels is available to North Canton Public Library cardholders only. If you use a non-NCPL card when using Libby, we can’t promise that Kovels will show up for you. Do you need to register for a North Canton Public Library card? Learn how to get that ball rolling here!
Let us know if Kovels helps you identify and score some real treasures — happy thrifting!
