Three art class sessions will be offered this summer.
Summer One begins in June.
Summer Two begins in July.
Summer Three (combined summer one and summer two) begins in June.

Registration Guidelines
Registration for all three sessions will begin Monday, May 13 at 2 p.m.
Registration closes for each class when it becomes full.

Are classes open to everyone?
Yes! But you must have a North Canton Public Library card to register.

Do I need to bring my own supplies?
Supplies are provided unless specified in the class description.

How do I register for a class?
Children’s art class registration is accepted online only at ncantonlibrary.org. Adult art class registration may be completed online or via email to gallery@northcantonlibrary.org.

What if I need to cancel?
Registration may be canceled online or via email to gallery@northcantonlibrary.org.

Summer Session One (S1) June
Mixed Media for grades 6-8
(S1) Mondays, June 3, 10, 17, 24, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Instructor: Lee Ann Novotny

Adventures with Clay Modeling for grades 6-8
(S1) Wednesdays, June 5, 19, 26 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
This is a basic course for students who have had little or no previous experience in clay sculpting. Practice sculpting, explore new tools, learn techniques and develop skills while creating a fantastic work of art. Instructor: Pat Mather Waltz

Basic Clay Modeling for adults and high school students
(S1) Wednesdays, June 5, 19, 26 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
This is a basic course for students who have had little or no previous experience in clay sculpting. Learn techniques and develop skills with local sculpture artist Pat Mather Waltz. Air dry clay is fun, easy to use, super versatile and best of all, you don’t need a kiln or a pottery wheel to start creating. Pat will lead students through demonstrations and will provide one on one guidance as they create beautiful works of art. Instructor: Pat Mather Waltz

Mixed Media for preschoolers ages 3-5

Preschool classes are for children who are able to participate in a classroom independently, and are potty-trained. Instructor: Lee Ann Novotny

Summer Session Two (S2) July
Watercolor Landscapes for adults and high school students
(S2) Mondays, July 8, 15, 22, 29, from 3 to 5 p.m.
This class is for everyone at every level wanting to learn techniques and paint buildings and landscapes. Students will create a landscape as the instructor leads them through the basics of material layout and design as well as watercolor techniques. This class has a requested supply list available online and at the library. Instructor: Jack Fetzer

Summer Splash for grades K-2
(S2) Mondays, July 8, 15, 22, 29, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
Paint the creatures in the ocean and make a paper campsite. Instructor: Marjorie Lutes

Vacation Travels for grades 3-5
(S2) Mondays, July 8, 15, 22, 29, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
Create a map with pen and watercolor, and design a hot air balloon. Instructor: Marjorie Lutes

Outdoor Art (inside) for grades 6-8
(S2) Wednesdays, July 10, 17, 24, 31, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Paint a summer landscape on canvas and make a wind sculpture. Instructor: Marjorie Lutes

Mixed up Media for adults and high school students
(S2) Wednesdays, July 10, 17, 24, 31, from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
Paint flowers in watercolor and acrylics, make a collage with fabric and paper, and draw a landscape with pastels on sanded paper. Instructor: Marjorie Lutes

Armature Building and Clay Modeling for grades 6-8
(S2) Wednesdays, July 10, 17, 24, 31, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
This class is for students who have already taken “Adventures with Clay Modeling” or have previous experience working with and sculpting clay. Students will build their own armature, or framework, on which a sculpture is molded. Clay modeling skills will be taken to a second level. Instructor: Pat Mather Waltz

Advanced Clay Modeling for adults and high school students
(S2) Wednesdays, July 10, 17, 24, 31, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
This class is for students who have already taken “Basic Clay Modeling” or have previous experience working with and sculpting clay. Intrigued by Watercolor for adults and high school students

Doing watercolors for a while? Feeling stuck? Let Nancy Stewart Matin help you get from “nice” to “wow”! This class is geared to intermediate and advanced artists. Supplies will be discussed during the first class. Instructor: Nancy Stewart Matin

Combined Summer Session (S1 and S2) June and July
Beginning Drawing for adults and high school students
(S1 and S2) Thursdays, June 6, 13, 20, 27, July 11, 18, 25, August 1, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
This class is for anyone who wants to learn to draw. It will cover the elements of drawing: line, shape, value, texture, space (including perspective, gesture and contour drawing). Students will experiment with different materials to produce great drawings. Supplies are provided. Instructor: Jerry Zelinskas
