The North Canton Public Library is pleased to offer free basic Notary services for the benefit of the residents of our community. Notary services are available by appointment only. Please call 330.499.4712 x310 to make an appointment.

Please make yourself familiar with the limits of our Notary service by reading the policy guidelines below.

The Library provides only basic Notary Public Services and is not able to notarize more than three signatures per person per visit. The Library’s free Notary service is intended for simple documents that do not require specialized expertise.

Notary service is not available for the following: deeds, wills, living wills, living trusts, codicils, depositions, powers of attorney; or mortgage or real estate closing documents. The individual Notary may also decline to notarize any document of any type at his/her sole discretion.

The document presented must be completely filled out, leaving no blanks other than where the customer will sign the document, before appearing before the Library Notary. The Library Notary will decline to notarize the document if it contains blank spaces.

The Notary must have satisfactory evidence that the person executing the document is the person described in the instrument. The Notary will decline to notarize the signature on a document if the signer cannot provide valid identification. Acceptable forms of identification include passports, driver licenses, or state-issued identification cards.

The Notary and the customer requesting Notary service must be able to clearly communicate directly with each other. Notaries are not permitted to make use of a translator to communicate with the customer.

Notaries cannot provide legal advice or assist in document preparation.  The Library will not provide witnesses and witnesses may not be solicited from customers using the Library. A witness must (previously) personally know the person needing the service of the Notary. This individual must also provide valid photo identification.

Notaries are required to follow Ohio Revised Code Chapter 147. Notaries will not provide service if a patron, document, or circumstance of the request for Notary service raises any issue of authenticity, ambiguity, doubt, or uncertainty. Under these circumstances, the Library Notary may, at his or her sole discretion, decline to provide Notary service.
