This coming Monday is Presidents’ Day, and the library will be closed in observance of the holiday. That means you only have 6 days left to come in and get yourself some great presidential books, movies, and TV shows to celebrate the day. Below are just a few options.

Turn: Washington’s Spies and Washington’s Spies: The Story of America’s First Spy Ring by Alexander Rose
One of my favorite TV shows of recent years, Turn looks at spying in the Revolutionary War. The book by Alexander Rose the show is based on is every bit as good. And both are a fun peek into George Washington as a leader before his presidency.

Grant by Ron Chernow
Master biographer Chernow (who also wrote Alexander Hamilton) tackled the life of Ohio’s own Ulysses S. Grant a few years ago. You probably can’t finish this weighty (literally) book on Presidents’ Day, but you can certainly get started.

Lincoln
A beautiful movie by Steven Spielberg, Daniel Day Lewis couldn’t be better as Abraham Lincoln. There’s a good chance you’ve seen this one before, but it’s definitely worth a rewatch.

Assassin of Shadows by Lawrence Goldstone
A fictional account of the assassination of President William McKinley, my book club is going to be reading this one later this year. I have to admit, I’m pretty excited at the prospect.

The Great Courses
The Great Courses are a fantastic series of audiobooks and videos that provide lectures on hundreds of different topics given by some of the best college professors and other experts in the world. We offer them on CD, downloadable audiobook, DVD, and streaming video. And there are numerous courses about the American presidency available in all those various formats.
