Hi there! My name is Nicole and I am one of the Reference Librarians here at NCPL. I am also responsible for a lot of the adult programming. I’m new to this whole blogging thing so I thought I’d introduce myself first and let you know about a couple of cool things going on here at the library, maybe give you a sneak peak into some of the ideas I’m considering for future programs, things like that. So here goes…

First off, I’ve worked in libraries for about four years now. I spent the majority of my time working with kids in K-12, so working with adults is still a bit new to me, but I love it! I not only get to plan programs that take place at the library, I also get to visit a couple of the assisted living facilities in the area and hold programs there. Aside from that, I am a super big animal lover and anyone who knows me, knows that a large part of my life revolves around my dog Harley. I also love to read (is there a librarian who doesn’t?) and I enjoy playing the piano. But enough about me!

As for what’s going on at the library, right now we are in the midst of 30 Days of Wonder, an awesome array of programming that focuses on kindness and accepting others. This line of programming is being offered in conjunction with Stark County’s One Book, One Community selection entitled Wonder by R.J. Palacio. Wonder is about a boy who has a craniofacial deformity and the challenges he overcomes. Although the book is targeted toward youth, everyone can definitely get something out of it. Check out our calendar for some of the other book-inspired activities we have going on this month.

In addition to One Book, One Community, one of the things I’m most excited about is our adult writing contest. Entries will be accepted through the end of the month at the adult/teen services desk and all forms of writing are welcome from prose to poetry to short stories. No prompt is required, though if you need a little inspiration, we do have prompts available. The top three entries will receive a prize, but only one entry is allowed per person. So what are you waiting for? Turn in your entry today!

Sneak peak: some things I’m exploring for future programs include: wine glass painting, sewing classes, collaborations with local yoga instructors, specialized computer classes etc. So stay tuned!
